Google owns Android.me....

It’s not exactly Googorola-sized news, but I just noticed that Google has very recently gained ownership over the domain Android.me (not worth linking as it is currently not in use – yet?).

Now, Google may have simply asked – or forced – the former owner to transfer ownership of the catchy domain name, so it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to launch a product by that name (besides, they already own android.com so why bother?).

For that and other reasons, I think it’s unlikely Google is planning to make Android.me the home for a new service, although I’ve been known to be wrong before. Either way, somewhat interesting.

After all, .me domain names are starting to get in vogue lately. Google worked on the Ro.me project, for instance, and there are plenty of other examples such as About.me, which was acquired by our parent company AOL, but also Ask.me, Connect.me, txt.me, Blog.me, Blip.me, With.me and News.me, a joint project from bit.ly and The New York Times).

Then there are startups like Tango, Kiip and Formspring, which also went with .me domain names.

The list goes on: Facebook owns fb.me, WordPress owns wp.me, Yahoo owns me.me, Microsoft owns windows.me, AOL owns aol.me, VKontakte owns vk.me, and Time Magazine owns ti.me.

Google should probably have a chat with WhitePages.com, by the way, as they own goog.me.

According to a recent blog post by the .ME Registry, more than 530,000 .me domain names – in 200 countries – have been secured in the three years they’ve been publicly available for registration.

Google was smart enough to register a couple of .me domain names from the get-go, including google.me, gmail.me, adwords.me, adsense.me, plus.me, blogger.me, orkut.me and youtube.me.

For whatever reason, they missed out on android.me and chro.me – but now they’ve solved half of that particular problem

Facebook bans NetLog....

Netlog isn’t widely known in the United States, but has been around for more than a decade and claims 80 million users, most of them in Europe and the Middle East. According to parent company Massive Media, Facebook provided no explanation of which specific rule they broke, or in what way.

Yet approximately 1.5 million users who had used Facebook Connect to sign up for Netlog were unable to log on to the site as a result of the ban, which went into effect last Tuesday, we’re told.
Initially, Netlog was told that they were violating a brand new item in Facebook’s Platform policy that was quietly added about two weeks ago – and stipulates that Facebook apps can’t link, promote, integrate or redirect to any apps on any competing social platform – but that appears to have been a painful communication error on Facebook’s part.
In fact, Netlog has never launched a canvas application on the Facebook platform, but was considering building one – those plans have now been abandoned, for obvious reasons.
Facebook confirms that a mistake occurred in the initial communication about the sudden ban, but that they’ve since informed Netlog about the real reasons they got banned.
Asked what those reasons were, a Facebook spokesperson would only say:
"Netlog took extensive steps to access internal Facebook APIs and deliberately compromised intended limitations of our platform. We took appropriate and necessary steps to protect people on Facebook."
Massive Media, meanwhile, says it isn’t aware of any willful wrongdoing but that they’ll look into the matter before commenting further. Because Facebook initially said that Netlog got banned for linking to a competing social platform, Massive Media actually considered filing a complaint against Facebook with the European Commission over its “anti-competitive actions”.

Multiple Login on Google...

Google is rolling out a feature signing in to multiple Google accounts simultaneously from the same browser. When you go to the Google accounts page, you might see a new option: "multiple sign-in". If you don't see the new feature, it will probably be enabled soon.

After clicking on the "change" link, Google informs that this is an advanced feature and that it will only work for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sites, Google Reader, Google Voice, App Engine and Google Code. When multiple sign-in is enabled, a drop-down is displayed next to your email address at the top of the page, so you can quickly switch to a new account.

"If you use multiple sign-in, the first account you sign in to will be your default account. If you visit other Google products that don't support multiple accounts after you've signed in, you will automatically sign in to your default account for that product. If you sign out of any Google product while signed in to any account, you will be signed out of all your Google Accounts at once." (Google help center)

When you enable this feature, the most significant change is that you'll see a new drop-down next to your email address in Gmail and other supported Google products. Click on the drop-down and you can sign in to a new Google Account without signing out from the previous account.

Another change is that Google's URLs include a different number for each account:http://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/, http://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/, etc.

Google's help center explains that Google's services didn't allow you to sign it to multiple accounts at the same time using the same browser because Google uses sign-in cookies that only let you sign in with one account at a time.

Obviously, you can use multiple browsers, Chrome's incognito mode, IE8's "new session" feature, multiple profiles, but the new Google feature makes things easier. Now you can read your messages from two or more Gmail accounts by opening Gmail in multiple tabs.

There are some known issues related to multiple sign-in: this feature is not available on mobile devices, Google Calendar's gadget doesn't work properly in Gmail, you can no longer use offline Gmail and offline Google Calendar and the "note in Reader" bookmarklet only works for the default account.

A watch turns time into a colorful ice cube

Kisai 3D Unlimited watch turns time into a colorful ice cube

The folks over at Tokyoflash tend to come up with some pretty inscrutable watches, but their latest creation, the Kisai 3D Unlimited, looks refreshingly... simple. Its cube-like, "3D" time display may not be conventional, but its mirrored LCD doesn't require a degree in cryptology, either (the time displayed above is 12:34. See it?).

The watch also features a pretty sleek, stainless steel design, with a case measuring just 8.5mm thick, and a fully adjustable strap that can fit even the daintiest of wrists. If you're interested in grabbing one, you can choose from seven different colors at the source link, for about $120.

Even Great people do mistakes.....

Bill Gates is considered as a great man. Many people look up to him. And a lot of people are inspired by his life. But then again like any other human being he also has his own mistakes. Here are the top 10 mistakes of Bill Gates.
  1. The man created a software monopoly and in return he got so many lawsuits for it.Bill Gates is still fighting with lawsuits. The source on wikipedia clearly stated that
United States v. Microsoft was a set of consolidated civil actions filed against Microsoft Corporation on May 18, 1998 by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and 20 U.S. states. Joel I. Klein was the lead prosecutor. The trial started on May 18, 1998 with the U.S. Justice Department and the Attorneys General of twenty U.S. states suing Microsoft for illegally thwarting competition in order to protect and extend its software monopoly.
  2. Bill Gates did not consider opensource. His business strategies always counter opensource principles and paradigm. You may be interested in his open-source debate In a Fortune magazine he clearly says that
It’s easier for our software to compete with Linux when there’s piracy than when there’s not.
  3. The Windows OS made Mr. Gates the richest man in the world. But its latest iteration is bombarded with lots of negative criticisms.
  4. He allowed Windows Mobile to happen. Did he run out of innovative ideas so he settled for a miniature Windows OS for mobile phone. He could have put up a team to design the OS from ground up.
  5. He let DOS die. It was a promising OS and a very stable one.
  6. Bill Gates did not think of cloud computing probably because of his proprietary Windows OS. But this is definitely one of his biggest mistakes.
  7. He allowed Windows Millennium edition to be released. The OS was definitely a reflection of the lack of talents from Microsoft. It failed the expectation of the people. It was premature.
  8. He ignored search. Look what happened to Google now. Bill Gates already made some moves about search in the end of the 90s and it was definitely a mistake to trash it.Scobleizer once revealed in his post that
Look at my last post. Now read this one over on LiveSide. It’s a short report that Microsoft executives are bragging to MVPs that “we’re in it to win.”
I don’t think Microsoft is. The words are empty. Microsoft’s Internetexecution sucks (on whole). Its search sucks. Its advertising sucks (look at that last post again). If that’s “in it to win” then I don’t get it. I saw a bunch of posts similar to the one on LiveSide coming out of the MVP Summit. I didn’t post any of them to my link blog for a reason: All were air, no real demonstrations of how Microsoft is going to lead.
  9. The Microsoft Zune is a mistake. A lot of money poured into its development but yet it did not yield enough profit.John Biggs from Crunchgear had a poetic post on “Who killed Microsoft?”.Some of the extract are as follows:
Who killed Microsoft? Why did all those jobs get lost?
“Not I,” said the Zune fanboy, “I got Zune, I’m no iToy Sure it didn’t do too much and too bad my girlfriend bought a Touch now we’re iTunes all the way what else do I have to say?”
  10. The Xbox on the other hand is too pricey for a gaming console and because of this; people go for other brands- the cheaper ones. This is only reason why Xbox price set to drop in war with  Sony’s PS3 and Nintendo’s top-selling Wii. Those are thetop 10 mistakes of Bill Gates. These might be some of the negative side of the guy but these will never take away his greatness.

The technology today is revising in many aspects. Such as its resizing, efficiency, handling and compatibility. One of such inventions isVKB stands for VirtualKeyboard. It’s a revolutionary gadget or one can say a complete mechanism.
    • It is almost compatible with every visual output device. Like phones, PDA,MAC or PCs. One can have it in his front pocket. A keyboard in pocket? A general question but the answer is simple VKB have this property. Its not a folding device but its in such a small size as comparable as cell phone.
